Avoid invasive monitoring
Elective Cesarean Section
Stomach wash
Clean the baby after birth including eyes and ears
Avoid breast feeding
AND drug therapy as follows:
AZT
If mother received AZT during pregnancy and delivery the newborn gets AZT 4mg/kg for 1 week
If not then AZT for 4 weeks.
Nevirapine
If mother received nevirapine more than 2 hours prior to delivery than single dose nevirapine 2mg/kg to the baby within 72 hours
If mother did not receive nevirapine or the delivery occurred within 2 hours of administration of nevirapine then baby gets nevirapine single dose as soon as possible.
Both AZT and Nevirapine are 10mg/ml suspensions.
